Nicholas is in the 5th grade

Nicholas has autism, but through typing, he is able to communicate and do his schoolwork. When he was 4, his parents thought he might be color blind because he could not expressively name his colors during ABA sessions.  His doctor thought otherwise, and by using Supported Typing and providing resistance at his wrist, she asked him what color the play teacup was.  Using a QWERTY letterboard, Nicholas pointed to  B-L-U.  When she told him to finish, he typed -E-.  Well, he definitely wasn’t color blind!!

Nicholas explains that “typing is my greatest gift.  It gives me a chance to be whatever I want to be.”  And because Nicholas works hard on his typing skills, he has had the chance to be fully included in a regular education classroom for the past 3 years, despite his inability to speak and write.  And on his last report card, he received straight A’s.  Nicholas is Nancy’s inspiration.
